AI Fluency: Self-Regulated Learning with LLMs

AI Fluency is an open coursebook for university students learning how to think and learn with Large Language Models. It presents AI Fluency as a form of self-regulated learning, rather than as a collection of prompt techniques.

The central aim is to develop the metacognitive ability to monitor, evaluate, and regulate both AI output and one’s own thinking. Learners progress from understanding how LLMs behave, to acquiring knowledge through dialogue, and finally to using AI in complex problem solving.

Course Structure

Each session is 180 minutes and consists of two 90-minute phases. Each phase follows the same cycle:

Lecture (30 min) → Exercise (30 min) → Q&A and Reflection (30 min)

The lectures pair EXPERIENCE with MECHANISM: learners first encounter a characteristic of LLM behavior and then examine the mechanism or concept behind it. Exercises immediately apply the ideas through direct interaction with an LLM.
